The Felinity Cover

Felinity – An Anthology by Kristell Ink

Felinity, noun, plural fel-in-ities. 1. The quality of being cat-like. 2. A divine being, a cat.

Grimbold Books is proud to present our first Kristell Inkling, a collection of feline inspired flash fiction stories written by authors from all around the world.
This collection celebrates what we regard as the most important factor when writing: write foremost for pleasure. The stories showcased in this book are full of laughter, grit, odd contraptions and a lot of fur, with a loud purring nod to our beloved genres of science fiction and fantasy.
From A.F.E Smith’s unique twist on Schrödinger’s cat, to Joel Cornah’s world-jumping old queen, from Clare Neilson’s steampunk creation to Tina Closser’s dragon fighting dreaming kitty, these alternate feline worlds are bound to delight sci fi/fantasy readers and cat lovers alike.

Tell us about something that has just happened or is about to happen in your life that you would like to share.
I’m planning on doing some overseas travel to do some research for a book.

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?
Yes I do, but what it turns into (Novella to series is all open) I’ll only know when the characters tell what they plan to do.

What books have influenced your writing? Continue Reading…

I’ve interviewed Chris before, but it often pays to revisit people, especially old favourites (no, Chris isn’t old… quite the opposite), so here we are…

Christopher Stocking, Author

Christopher Stocking, Author

First, I’ll start with a brief intro. Chris and I met through the blogosphere. I can’t quite recall initial contact, but I do recall finding his blog posts entertaining and enlightening. He was a self-published author while I was still writing HEALER’S TOUCH. I enjoyed his blog posts so much, I read one of his early works. Now, I’m not going to say I was blown away… but I guess I always sensed that Chris has what it takes to get somewhere in this writing world. Is he there yet? Am I? Perhaps not yet… but it’s coming.

So, I returned to Chris’ work when he released another novel. I rather enjoyed London Darkness: Infernal Inventions, and felt it was definitely a move in the right direction in showing Chris’ growing talent. And then he released His Only Star, a YA novella, and I gave that a read, too. Again, this was a step forward, and the emotions Chris managed to bring into the book were real.

The rest… I’ve yet to sit down to (though I plan to!)…

So, Chris is young, currently self-published (though looking to seek the assistance of the traditional publishing world), and just gets better and better with each book published.

He’s one to watch.

And the best way to watch an author, is to read an author… so, you know… go take a look

And now, with no further ado… here’s that interview…

Hey, Chris. Tell us a little about yourself…

Well, first, I’m 23 years old, I’m married (I know, I know, I’m too young to be married! Or so I hear, anyway), and I love coffee. I also enjoy a few rounds of boxing (both engaging in and watching, that is).

Hi Deb,

How are you? I really want to say thank you for having me today to talk to your readers.

What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?

One More Day Book CoverMy most recent published short story is a YA piece titled Dragon Flight and it appears in the ONE MORE DAY anthology. It’s about a girl who is terrified of heights who gets stranded 300-feet in the air atop the rollercoaster, Dragon Flight. Time stops, everyone around, including her crush, freezes and she is the only one who can set the world right again…which means she has to get off the coaster. What she decides to do and what she learns along the way is pretty twisted, much like Dragon Flight.

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?

I am currently writing a YA fantasy series, The Chronicles of Fallhollow. The first novel is Continue Reading…

The Binding

What do you do when you can’t trust your heart?

All seventeen year-old Eliza Bryant wants is to avoid a Binding— the ancient spell that forces couples into a lifelong bond. It cursed her sister, and for the last two years it’s tried to claim her, too. Her monthly hiding ritual worked brilliantly, until the night she ran into Ryan, a mysterious bounty-hunter. Now Bound to him, Eliza must spend every moment at his side, else she’ll transform into an Unbound; a lifeless husk without mind or soul.

Unfortunately, Ryan’s not looking to settle Continue Reading…

Ecante by Aiyana Jackson (Cover)

Deep under the ocean, Simeon Escher, protégé to the leader of the order of Loth Lörion, finds himself an unexpected guest aboard the submersible, Narwhal. Home to a crew of humans, and strange mer-folk few people are aware exist, Simeon is swept up in their quest to find a world within a world, a possible safe haven from the insidious reach of the Kabbalah. Yet how can he think about his mission when the captain’s niece fills his every thought, distracting him from all that’s important to him, including his own fiancée.

Encante (a Novella) is the first in a new Steampunk series, set in a multiverse known as The Fifteen Solars. Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy is probably the most well recognised example of a Multiverse-based tale.

The Fifteen Solars is so named due to the fact there are fifteen planets existing in parallel, each very different from the next, but Continue Reading…

First Day of the New Tomorrow Blog Tour

Hello, Jennifer! Welcome to the home of Deb E., where I grill you slowly, basting regularly, until you’re nice and tender then I—uh, hey, where ya going?

What are you, nuts? [I can neither confirm nor deny] I’m nobody’s turkey. Or chicken. Choose your foul!

Come back, come back, I’ll be gentle. Promise. [See. I look totally innocent].

Okay, well the innocent thing is still up in the air. Put that baster down, please.

So, first up, can you tell me a little about you and your induction into writing?

I started writing in high school on a whim. I always had stories in my head, but writing them down took too long and my father had to buy stock in correction tape for the typewriter.

Hold it. I see that baster. Put it down!

Anyway… then Continue Reading…

NC2 Back Cover

Cover - The Reluctant Prophet by Gillian O'RourkeHello, Gillian! Welcome to the home of Deb E., where I grill you slowly, basting regularly, until you’re nice and tender then I—uh, hey, where ya going? Come back, come back, I’ll be gentle. Promise. [See. I look totally innocent].

So, first up, can you tell me a little about you and your induction into writing?

Hi Deb, thanks for having me (but please not for dinner). And I promise to keep everything short and sweet! At the moment I’m working away full time as a Social Care Worker, helping adults with Intellectual Disabilities, but before that I was a nurse for several years in Melbourne, Australia, where I grew up. First thing people might notice about me is my odd accent, which has a mix of Scottish, Aussie and Irish now since I moved to Eire in 2007.

As for my writing, I’ve always been writing stories, especially since my teens, but I haven’t truly pursued it because I wouldn’t let anyone read my stuff. Last year I decided to ‘grow a pair’ and I was really very lucky to come across some very lovely people from Kristell Ink, who decided they loved my fantasy novel.

Tell me a little about your fantasy novel, THE RELUCTANT PROPHET.

The Reluctant Prophet is set in its own unique world, more medieval in technologies and beliefs. The story is written from the perspective of seventeen year old Esther, who has the gift/curse of foresight. The only problem is, she can only Continue Reading…

A writer friend of mine, Chris Stocking, is very excited to reveal the cover, designed by The Book Cover Machine, of his forthcoming novel BLACK POWDER BRIGADE.

Black Powder Brigade Book Cover

THE HUNT FOR A MADMAN BEGINS…

THE NEW WORLD – A group of elite soldiers known as the Black Powder Brigade patrol the world in secret, searching for strange and deadly creatures to ensure the natural order is safe.

Victoria Sorrel, operating under the lie that she is a boy, joins these men in their hunt for unusual creatures in hopes that it will satisfy her hunger for adventure. But, things take a dark turn for Victoria and the Black Powder Brigade. Colonists come up missing, an unusual number of trade ships start to arrive at Boston Harbor, and the madman Isaac Carter escapes from prison.

The colonies become overrun with monsters, murder, and betrayal.

The New World hangs in the balance, and it’s up to Victoria, The Black Powder Brigade, and some newly made friends to pry it from the clutches of evil.

I have been following Mr. Stocking’s career for some time now. I read his first published novel, the now retired BLOODCREST, and while I found it a little disappointing in places, I knew I had found a keen Writer. Every time Mr. Stocking steps out of the gate he grows stronger. I have little doubt he’s one to watch.

Hey my peeps,

Those of you who have hung around here a while likely know that I tend towards being a pantster… or, more precisely, a plotster. I write by the seat of my pants with a vague notion of where I want the story to end up and how I want to get there.

Reaper's Rhythm CoverBut since there’s no one right way to do this thing, I thought I’d get fellow-writer Clare Davidson to let us in on her process. Clare writes Fantasy, and her new Urban/Paranormal Fantasy novel REAPER’S RHYTHM came out on Friday.

Take it away Clare…

To plot or not to plot…

Okay, I apologise for the terrible Hamlet pun. What can I say? I’m an English teacher.

Plotting and I have a love-hate relationship. It’s pretty similar to the relationship I have with my muse, actually. When I first started writing, I Continue Reading…
