Awkwardness… – #8Sunday

So here I am again, sharing eight lines of WIP for the Weekend Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday.

“Welcome” to new readers, and “Thanks for coming back” to returners.

Sorry to those who were looking for a little more explanation to last week’s entry. I’m going to have to remain tight-lipped on that one… too much spoilery information for HEALER’S TOUCH… But I love this bit, so I hope you will, too…

To set the scene for this one: Jonas and Llew have just attended a funeral for someone dear to them and have headed out for a walk to reflect. Jonas complimented Llew on her speech… and Llew brushes him off like so:

Llew reached the fence and turned to look Jonas up and down.

“I didn’t say anything.”

“Well then, what you didn’t say, it was real nice.” He gave her a lop-sided smile and leaned against a fence post. “I mean I… I’m real glad you saved my life, too.” He looked down, scowling. “That ain’t what I meant…” He pulled his hat from his head, ran his other hand through his short hair and, with a grimace, pushed his hat back in place.

Aww… I don’t know about you, but when Jonas gets awkward, he gets my, ah, heart pumping…

This was an excerpt from my current WIP, WARRIOR’S TOUCH, the follow-on book to HEALER’S TOUCH.

Of course, I think it would be fab if you would consider purchasing a copy of Healer’s Touch (A few links I know of can be found here).

On the run after surviving the hangman’s noose, Llew learns that her ability to heal herself and others is more dangerous than she could have imagined. And her greatest hope of remaining free of those who would use her power for ill lies with the man who would kill her if he ever found out what she was… or would he?

Oh, but there is so much more!

HT is quirky, fast paced, Western-steampunk-fantasy. It’s Llew’s journey of self discovery and acceptance and the start of her emotional healing.

Deb E was born in New Zealand’s North Island, but her parents corrected that within months, moving south to Dunedin and staying there. Childhood nights were spent falling asleep to cover versions of Cliff Richard and the Shadows and other Rock ’n Roll classics played by her father’s band, and days were spent dancing to 45 LPs. Many of her first writing experiences were copying down song lyrics. She graduated to scientific reports when she studied a nematophagus fungus in the Zoology department of the University of Otago, trading all traces of popularity for usefulness… then traded both for fiction. Mum of one human & four fur-babies.

This seems like an “Aw Shucks” moment and I can just picture Jonas. Interesting excerpt.

It seems that Jonas didn’t expect Llew to react this way. Nicely awkward.

Yeah. They’re both dealing with a lot of emotion in their own way and neither of them expresses it well, probably least of all Llew.

He’s very endearing somehow, as he struggles to express himself. Excellent excerpt!

Got to love his lop sided smile!

Aww… There is just something about a guy getting all flustered and nervous – it’s just so cute!
