Music Discovery: March 2013

I have been a bit lax doing this, but I thought it was about time I talked music again. I’m still part of The Countdown online music voting group, even though I’m finding time to dedicate to listening to music tight! At home, we pretty much have the Michael Jackson “This Is It” DVD on high-rotate at the toddler’s demand request — granted, he is learning some pretty cool moves — and at work they don’t like it when I stick my headphones in… I can’t really focus on new music while writing… leaving very little time to put into it! But I try. But enough about me… Here’s a sample video compiled by one of my fellow Countdowners. If anything appeals, I encourage you to go find out more! I love that I get to hear new music from places our radio/music video stations simply don’t play.

I have to admit to not naturally being much of a fan of Kora, the band I selected to represent NZ this month. But I figured they were as popular as they are for a reason… We shall see how they go. Traditionally, NZ lands somewhere in the top 10-20 ranks.

After not a lot of listening so far, my top picks are:

Eros Ramazzotti – Un Angelo Disteso Al Sole – IT
Margaret Berger – I Feed You My Love – NO and
Xuman – Play – RU

in no particular order…

Deb E was born in New Zealand’s North Island, but her parents corrected that within months, moving south to Dunedin and staying there. Childhood nights were spent falling asleep to cover versions of Cliff Richard and the Shadows and other Rock ’n Roll classics played by her father’s band, and days were spent dancing to 45 LPs. Many of her first writing experiences were copying down song lyrics. She graduated to scientific reports when she studied a nematophagus fungus in the Zoology department of the University of Otago, trading all traces of popularity for usefulness… then traded both for fiction. Mum of one human & four fur-babies.
