[Music] Building a Playlist

So, I’m on the road to publication – Yay! Say it with me: YAY!

Anyway, I’ve been thinking of my marketing, from a book trailer to cover design to the BOOK RELEASE PARTAY! That’s right, it’s a partAy, baby, yeah! So, I’ve been thinking about what music I’d love to have playing, and while at my usual parties I’d go all dancy and stuff (granted, MY kind of dance, but still), I figure I won’t be doing much dancing at this particular shindig. No. Instead, I want to set the mood of the book.

So, I have a few tunes in mind – just under 2.5hrs worth so far. A good chunk of The Crow movie soundtrack would work, such as The Cure “Burn”, Machines of Loving Grace (I sense a Steampunk theme!) “Golgotha Tenement Blues”, Nine Inch Nails “Dead Souls”, etc. I’ve also slipped in Guns ‘n Roses “November Rain”, Deftones “Knife Party” (a song I have always considered Jonas’ “theme song”), The Feelers “Weapons of War”, and this one …

I’ve always loved the “I can do anything” theme to this song. I have to admit, I don’t understand it, have no idea what it’s about, but it still feels like it fits. “I can do anything” and “Vulgar before me” … Yeah …It means something.

Deb E was born in New Zealand’s North Island, but her parents corrected that within months, moving south to Dunedin and staying there. Childhood nights were spent falling asleep to cover versions of Cliff Richard and the Shadows and other Rock ’n Roll classics played by her father’s band, and days were spent dancing to 45 LPs. Many of her first writing experiences were copying down song lyrics. She graduated to scientific reports when she studied a nematophagus fungus in the Zoology department of the University of Otago, trading all traces of popularity for usefulness… then traded both for fiction. Mum of one human & four fur-babies.

Another step toward getting published! Yay! I’m so pleased for you!

I think it would be fun to offer the book with a playlist, to have your readers listen to it as they read the book. Have an interview with you in there too. A multimedia experience.

That would be really cool. I imagine it would cost a packet to get buy the royalties for the music, though (darn it)! Certainly a neat idea, though. Maybe I’ll get something close to that when they make the movie (o: Heh heh …

Wanna talk about it?
